~ Subluxation & Spine Health ~
When a vertebra moves out of its normal position, chiropractors refer to this as a subluxation, or more specifically, the Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC).
A subluxation can develop from everyday incidents like a small slip or bump, or from more serious events such as a car accident or sudden injury. When this misalignment occurs, it can place pressure on nearby nerves, blood vessels, and surrounding tissues.
This interference disrupts the normal flow of messages between the brain and the body. If a subluxation is left uncorrected, the spine—and structures like discs and joints—may begin to deteriorate over time. As this happens, the body adapts by compensating in other areas, which can make the problem more difficult to correct the longer it goes untreated.
Chiropractors identify vertebral subluxations through five key components:● Spinal Kinesiopathology – abnormal movement or positioning of spinal bones● Neuropathophysiology – nerve irritation or dysfunction● Myopathology – muscle changes or imbalances● Histopathology – inflammation or tissue damage● Pathophysiology – long-term structural changes or degeneration
Chiropractors specialize in adjusting both soft and hard tissues. With precise, gentle spinal adjustments, the vertebra can be guided back into its proper alignment, helping restore healthy function and natural movement.
